Privacy policy

This policy explains what Back Taxes Desk (backtaxesdesk.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. Last updated September 18, 2026.

What we collect

• Visit data. When you read a page, we record the page address, the referring site, your browser type, device type, language, IP address and the approximate location derived from it (country, region and city). A random identifier stored in your browser lets us count returning visitors without knowing who you are.
• Messages you send. If you use a contact or feedback form, we store your name, email, message and the page you sent it from.
• Account data. If you create an account, we store your email, username, display name, a securely hashed password and anything you choose to add to your profile. We send one-time codes by email to confirm your address.
• Community content. Questions, answers and posts you publish are public, along with your display name and username.

Approximate location is looked up from the IP address using Cloudflare and the IP Geolocation by DB-IP database (CC BY 4.0).

How we use it

To run and secure the site, count and understand traffic, reply to messages, prevent spam and abuse, and improve our guides. We do not sell your personal information.

Cookies and similar technology

We use a session cookie for sign-in and security, and browser storage for the visitor counter described above. We also use Matomo, a web analytics service, which may set its own cookies.

Advertising

We may show ads served by Google and other vendors. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits. You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings or at aboutads.info.

Security checks

Our forms may use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. Our hosting network, Cloudflare, processes connection data to protect the site.

How long we keep data

Visit records are kept for about 13 months. Messages are kept until they are resolved and then deleted within 24 months. Account data is kept until you ask us to delete your account.

Your choices and rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete personal information we hold about you by writing to us through the contact page. California residents have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal information.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above.
